Dr. Maria Dornelas holds the position of reader in the School of Biology at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. She has a PhD in marine biology from James Cook University, Australia. Her research focuses on quantifying and understanding the processes that shape biodiversity patterns in coral reefs, tropical freshwater fishes, mangrove crabs, and plants. In general, her research questions fall under the disciplines of community ecology, macroecology and biogeography, at intermediate spatio-temporal scales (processes occurring over years to decades).
