Research Interests

I am a microbial ecologist with a keen interest on the microbiology of marine microbes involved in both Nitrogen and Carbon biogeochemical cycles. My research specifically focuses on the roles and evolutionary adaptations of prokaryotic assemblages (“rare” and abundant) in oceanic transition zones of the oligotrophic ocean and in the microoxic-anoxic layers of gut systems – using next-generation sequencing techniques (single-cell genomics, metagenomics, and metatranscriptomics).
