Research Interests

​To investigate the ecology of planktonic organisms in the Red Sea using traditional methods (microscopy) as well as molecular tools (e.g. amplicon sequencing using high throughput sequencing technologies). Understanding long-term patterns of marine plankton: abundance, distribution and seasonal cycles. Determine potential limiting nutrients for phytoplankton growth in the Red Sea through incubation experiments during different seasonal cycles. Studying marine food chains (trophic interactions), marine community structuring and functioning. Determine potential effects of intense aquaculture farming on the oligotrophic system. Evaluating the possibility of enhanced plankton productivity and potential toxic phytoplankton blooms in the Red Sea
