​Ashlie's previous research focused on the photo-identification of cartilaginous fish. This research looked at pigmentation pattern stability and scar tissue regeneration of Dipturus intermedia in order to create the Common Skate Photo-Identification Database for Scotland. Additionally, Ashlie has an interest in marine robotics and has been involved in the deployment and recovery missions of Scotland's west coast fleet of SeaGliders. 

Ashlie hopes to continue her work in cartilaginous fish studies, with a broad focus on marine connectivity and philopatry and potentially exploring population genetics.
