Research Interests

Dr. Kottuparambil's research interests are in the areas of ecotoxicology and algal ecophysiology. A central theme of his current research is the investigation of toxic effects of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in phytoplankton in the Red Sea. The research emphasizes the PAH toxicity responses in phytoplankton, their ecological fates and the development of analytical methods for effective monitoring. His team approach relies on cell-specific techniques to measure PAHs sorption and its physiological consequences by UV excitation flow cytometry and microscopic PAM fluorometry.
