TALK TITLE: The sea-skater Halobates - the bug Darwin never saw
Abstract: Halobates, with 48 described species, is the only insect genus with representatives living in the open ocean miles away from land. The coastal species are very different in biology from the 5 open ocean species. The biology, distribution, phylogeny and special adaptations necessary for the pelagic species to overcome various challenges in order to survive in the open ocean will be discussed.
