ABSTRACT: In recent years several studies that have utilized remote sensing, and modeling to describe the surface and overturning circulation in the Red Sea. However, there have been limited in situ, observational studies to investigate these processes. The northern Red Sea is an important area where cooling and evaporation in winter contribute to the overturning circulation of the Red Sea, and the where Red Sea Outflow Water and Red Sea Deep Water form. A primary objective of this research is to understand the variability of thermohaline characteristics in the northern Red Sea and evaluate the relationship to atmospheric forcing and advection. A combination of glider observations, satellite imagery, and atmospheric reanalysis products from winter and summer, 2019, are used to address some of the unanswered questions.
