The TOC unit is mainly used to measure the levels of dissolved organic carbon and total nitrogen in seawater samples. The organic carbon of the sample is ultimately detected as carbon dioxide in a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) detector after high temperature catalytic oxidation (HTCO). The analyzer has a nitrogen unit attached, which allows simultaneous measurements of organic carbon and total dissolved nitrogen in the water samples.
