Reef Genomics alumni Aubrie O'Rourke​ awarded fellowship with NASA

​​Aubrie O'Rourke finished her Ph.D. at the Reef Genomics Lab in 2015 working on bioactive compounds from Red Sea sponges. Now, two years later, Aubrie has shifted her focus from the hidden realms of the sea to the depth of space. Specifically, Aubrie just got awarded with the highlight competitive Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Award Fellowship with NASA. The fellowship, which is awarded by the NASA Space Biology Program, runs for two years and gives her the chance to study the effects of microgravity and radiation on phenotype, genotype and pathogenicity of bacteria onboard the ISS.
