Research Interests
Dr. Odobel has a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Western Brittany, France, where she studied the methanogenic communities of cold seeps. Then she did two postdoctoral fellowships in oceanography and microbial ecology in the marine station of Banyuls-sur-mer, Sorbonne University, France. She investigated the microbial diversity of submarine groundwater discharges and also microbial plastic biodegradation in marine conditions. She is concerned with the observation and understanding of marine ecosystems. The diversity of microorganisms and their functions is a major driver of biogeochemical cycles. Dr. Odobel is particularly interested in contributing to a better understanding of the role of microorganisms in the functioning and response of ecosystems subjected to environmental fluctuations.
She joined the RSRC as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Daffonchio's team to work on the exciting ecosystems of brine pools, the phenomenon of micritization in lagoons, and other fascinating projects.
