Research Interests

Sofia's dream is to become a marine researcher and work within the conservation field.

They say, "if you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere." Well, she thinks she can relate better to something like, "if you truly love nature, you want to investigate everything everywhere, so you’ll be able to protect it.”

Sofia's research interests focus on various topics: marine and environmental science, ecology, ethology, biology, zoology, and genetics.

She wants to commit herself to protect elasmobranchs (like sharks, rays, and skates) because even if they're generally overlooked (ex. skates and rays) or persecuted and exploited, they really are important keystone species that need all our attention. If we lose them, then we will lose even more in our Oceans. Healthy ecosystems need healthy communities, but nowadays, there's still the need to raise awareness about this topic.
